Ink fingerprinting is a method used to capture fingerprints on a physical card and is often required for criminal background checks requested by foreign governments, international organizations, or for purposes outside Canada. While domestic checks in Canada are usually processed electronically through the RCMP, many international applications—such as for U.S. FBI checks, immigration, visas, employment, or adoption abroad—still require ink and roll fingerprints. This service involves presenting valid ID, having fingerprints taken on the required card (e.g., FD-258), and submitting it according to the requesting authority’s instructions.
The United States has the right to deny entry to individuals with a criminal record. To avoid being refused at the border, it is essential to obtain a U.S. Entry Waiver (Form I-192), which allows you to travel to or through the U.S. legally.Once granted, a U.S. Entry Waiver eliminates the risk of denial at the border, overriding the discretionary authority of U.S. border officers.
If you have lived in Canada and are applying for US immigration, a visa, or a green card, you may need a Canadian RCMP criminal record check for “Personal Use.” This type of check, previously known as a Privacy Act check, is often required by USCIS (Department of Homeland Security U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) and it involves fingerprints within the RCMP National Repository Entire Holdings.
